Television for cats may sound like the silliest idea ever, but when you turn on Feline Frolics your cat will stare with rapt predatory attention, staring far more alertly than your average couch potato. This odd little video features birds, fish, mice, rabbits, bumblebees, a plastic ball on a string, other cats, and a small blue square that bounces around the edges of the screen like a refugee from Pong, accompanied by a soundtrack of largely disconnected natural sounds--quacking, trilling, whining, gulping, panting, purring, even a lion roaring (there's also an alternative musical soundtrack, but this made no impression whatsoever on my cat; she didn't look at the screen until chirping caught her ear). Some cats my find this endlessly engaging, but with mine, the fascination only lasted for 10 to 12 minutes, after which she became bored (possibly by the lack of smell or other sensory stimuli) and sauntered off. My cat occasionally glanced at a bird fluttering across the screen after that but was far more interested with the world outside the living room window. --Bret Fetzer
